BPM on cloud: automation can help

We attended the Boston stopover of a global conference tour on BPM on cloud. And of the many interesting thoughts and insights we gathered throughout the event, a few things really stuck with us. One being that on average in small businesses there are approximately 100 processes taking place at any time to support their operations. This number can go up ten times for larger enterprises. And even with those kinds of numbers, upwards of 80 percent of companies have not automated these processes. Now isn’t that surprising! The other thing that surprised us was most of these people knew the vast majority of startups end up failing (upwards of 90 percent),another similar lesser known stat is that around 70 percent of strategic initiatives end up failing in mid-size and larger businesses.

More than the startups failing, it’s the failure of strategic initiatives is a worrying sign for us. This is because most startups may or may not have the required funding for implementing automation but mid-size or large enterprises do not have this constraint. Moreover, out of these strategic initiatives that fail, 50 percent fail because people are not committed to change. People just don’t want to change. So they just don’t accept anything new in the company and thus, strategic initiatives just fail to take off.
